Parish Council

Rick Houghton elected for Donington and Boscobel Ward

A contested by-election filled the parish council seat left vacant in February.

Rick Houghton has been elected as the parish councillor for the Donington and Boscobel Ward of Albrighton and Donington Parish Council.

How the vacancy arose

The seat became vacant when Councillor Robert Parry resigned on 20 February 2026. Local electors asked for an election rather than a co-option, and a notice of election was published on 17 March.

The poll

Two candidates stood:

  • Rick Houghton, described on the ballot as an active member of the local community
  • William Edward King, Conservative Party

Voting took place on Thursday 23 April from 7am to 10pm at the RAF Cosford Community Hub. Only electors registered in the Donington and Boscobel Ward could vote. Photo ID was required.

The parish council thanked both candidates and everyone who voted. The full declaration of the result is on the parish council website.

About the parish

Albrighton and Donington Parish Council was formed on 1 April 2025, when the old Albrighton and Donington with Boscobel parish councils were merged in a boundary review. Full council meetings are usually held on the third Thursday of the month.
