Living in Albrighton

Your post says Wolverhampton, but Albrighton is a Shropshire village with its own council, schools, surgery and a long history. Here is the practical side.

Who runs what

The village has a WV7 Wolverhampton postcode because of where its post is sorted, but it sits in Shropshire. Services are split between two councils:

  • Shropshire Council handles bins and recycling, council tax, planning, roads, schools admissions and social care. Phone 0345 678 9006 or visit shropshire.gov.uk.
  • Albrighton and Donington Parish Council runs the library, awards community grants, provides the Christmas lights and village CCTV, and leads local projects, and is consulted on planning applications. It was formed on 1 April 2025 by merging the Albrighton and Donington with Boscobel councils. Office in the Library Building, Station Road, phone 01902 375455, albrightondonington-pc.gov.uk.
  • Member of Parliament: Albrighton is in The Wrekin constituency (Mark Pritchard MP).

Health

  • Free blood pressure checks are held at the library twice a month.

Other groups include the Albrighton and District Historical Society, the Footpaths Group, Albrighton Allotments Association, Albrighton Craft Club (which runs the Repair Café), Zanshin Shotokan Karate and Core and More Pilates. The library hosts Rhymetime, the Chatty Café, book clubs and Age UK sessions, and the Red House on the High Street is the main venue for meetings and classes.

The parish council keeps a community directory of groups and offers community grants.
