New footpath to Cosford station nears completion

Shropshire Council is finishing a footpath between RAF Cosford and Cosford railway station, where people have had to walk in the road.

Work on the final phase of a new footpath between RAF Cosford and Cosford railway station started on Monday 28 September and was due to finish that week.

Shropshire Council says the path is badly needed at a spot where people currently have to walk along the road with no safe place to step aside. The first phase was built in June and July, and street lighting has since been added. The scheme is funded by Active Travel England, which supports walking and cycling projects.

Traffic arrangements

  • Worcester Road West closed during working hours (8am to 5pm), with a signed diversion and pedestrian access only.
  • Restrictions on Long Lane, Neachley: HGVs and coaches only for access to the RAF Museum or to properties and businesses.
  • Emergency vehicles keep access throughout.

Cosford station is the next stop west of Albrighton on the Wolverhampton to Shrewsbury line and the nearest station to the RAF Museum.
